Few do. This is North America at its undiscovered best...and for the PT, Nova Scotia has a lot to offer...privacy, cheap real estate, a low cost of living, unspoiled natural beauty, friendly people and lifestyle opportunities to suit virtually every taste. Nestled in the North Atlantic on Canada's east coast, Nova Scotia is Canadaâ??s second-smallest province (about half the size of Pennsylvania) with a population of just under 1 million people. This little-known paradise has long been a favorite escape for Canadians and Europeans "in the know", but few Americans outside of typical tourists make it to this secretive outpost. Why? Well, perhaps it's because Nova Scotia isn't a destination you stumble across by accident. Almost completely surrounded by water, it lies hidden between the Atlantic Ocean, the Bay of Fundy, the Northumberland Strait, and the Gulf of St. Lawrence. Also, the very private people here want things kept low key. The Good Life...stress free Nova Scotia is one of those places that can seduce you through its sheer natural beauty. The seemingly endless stretches of picturesque coastline, a lush green countryside, the beautiful colors of autumn, and cheap and plentiful seafood, make it one of the most livable places in North America. If you like England, Ireland and Scotland, you'll love Nova Scotia. In today's frantic world, Nova Scotia offers PTs an unparalleled escape: old-world European architecture, great restaurants and leisure opportunities, and slow-paced towns that haven't changed much in 100 years, where fishing and enjoying the outdoors is a way of life. PT Friendly In no particular order, here are some other reasons to consider Nova Scotia as either a full-time or summer retreat. 1.) Canada is a peaceful nation with no enemies, good international relationships, and is at minuscule risk for a terror attack. 2.) Canada has a fully democratic system that respects individual rights and freedoms. In fact, Canada has some of the strictest personal and financial privacy laws in the world, and Nova Scotia's are among Canada's toughest. 3.) The cost of living in Nova Scotia is up to 50 percent lower than in many American, European and Asian urban centers, and Nova Scotia has some of the most affordable and attractive real estate in North America. Oceanfront and lakeside lots can be had for as little as $10,000 (or a charming 3-bedroom home on several acres can be yours for under $50,000). Non-citizens may buy property without restrictions. 4.) Americans (Australians and most Europeans) don't need a visa to spend up to 180 days as a tourist in Canada, meaning you need not worry about official residency paperwork or tax obligations. You can simply cross the border every six months and return to the country as a tourist. 5.) Nova Scotia enjoys a crime rate more than three times lower than the U.S. average, with incidents of violent crime being remarkably low. 6.) Life expectancy in Canada is 79.8, higher than the U.S. and drugs are typically 30 to 50 percent cheaper than in the U.S., which is why more than a million Americans now have their prescriptions filled in Canada. 7.) Prostitution is completely legal here (the outcall/escort service variety). What you do in the privacy or your own home or hotel room is your business! 8.) A moderate climate is another plus. Summer temperatures range from the mid 60s to the low 80s, with the winters being much milder (with less snow) than many other places in Canada or the northern United States. That said, if you're budget-conscious, enjoy your privacy, and have a 19th-century mindset, then you owe it to yourself to investigate what Nova Scotia has to offer. BERLIN (Reuters) - A museum devoted to curry-flavored sausage, a popular snack known to Germans as currywurst, is set to open early next year in Berlin, the head of the museum said Thursday. It was in 1949, in the post-World War II ruins of western Berlin's Charlottenburg district, that snack stand owner Herta Heuwer first sold her patented curry sausages. The delicacy is typically served smothered in ketchup dusted with curry powder and sliced into bite-sized chunks that are eaten with a wooden or plastic fork. "Currywurst is simply cool," museum director Birgit Breloh said at a news conference adding she was confident the museum would attract 350,000 sausage-loving visitors every year. The museum will also highlight the historic connections between currywurst and the German capital. --- Horses forced to wear underpants IN a move to rival Singapore for cleanliness, authorities in Rome have decided to fit the horses which transport tourists in carriages with "underpants" to avoid their droppings from fouling the streets of one of Europe's tourist gateways. The elegant grey and pink coloured bags will be worn from August 15 after a compromise between the city council and the union of coach drivers. They have been nicknamed the "botticelle", or barrel carrier, a reference to the days when horse drawn carts were the principal means of transport for wine barrels in the city. In exchange for this gesture towards improving the cleanliness of Rome's streets, the coach drivers will be provided with new stables and will have an extended area in which they are allowed to travel in Rome. There are about 40 horse-drawn carriages operating in Italian capital who have taken advantage of the closure of part of the historic city centre to cars. Singapore imposed a complete ban on the sale of chewing gun in 1991 in a move to clean up the city's streets. The southeast Asian city state has since softened the rule by now allowing people to buy gum in pharmacies. --- We're going to eat out of a WHAT? TAIPEI (Reuters) - It may take a strong stomach to eat curry or chocolate ice cream out of a toilet bowl, but a commode-themed restaurant in Taiwan does booming business serving up just that. The Martun, or toilet in Chinese, restaurant in the southern port city of Kaohsiung boasts lengthy queues on weekends as diners wait for a toilet seat in its brightly colored tile interior. Food arrives in bowls shaped like Western-style toilets or Asian-style "squat pots." Manager Hung Lin-wen said the original inspiration came from a toilet-shaped spaceship in a Japanese cartoon. The theme has attracted droves of novelty-seeking young people who come to play with their food and gross out their friends. "We think the theme is special, and the food is tasty," Hung said. But no matter how delicious, a few customers still find the combination a little hard to swallow. "The taste is good, but I still feel disgusted when I look at it," said diner Lin Yu-may. ----- Randy donkey exiled A randy donkey has been banished to a deserted island after harassing female donkeys at a Croatian national park. Aga the donkey used to badger his favourite females for sex as much as 16 times a day. Park officials acted after tourists complained that whenever they visited the park all the donkey seemed to be doing was trying to have sex. They also complained that the other donkeys were no longer so friendly and spent all their time hiding from Aga. The herd of wild donkeys had until recently been a major attraction for tourists in the popular Telascica National Park in southern Croatia. Park officials say the rest of the herd seems happier and healthier since Aga was caught and shipped off to the deserted island of Dugi Otok. A spokesman for the national park said Aga had plenty of food and water on the island, and would be kept there until he "clamed down". The spokesman said: "The other donkeys in the park were hiding to avoid Aga and that meant they were not mixing with the tourists. But now Aga has gone they have come out of hiding and are happily mixing with the visitors again." ----- Oxymoron: government efficiency ----- Advertising: The science of arresting the human intelligence long enough to get money from it -- Stephen Leacock ----- "We're going to have the best-educated American people in the world." -- J. The first sez, "I got married because I was tired of eating out, cleaning the house, doing the laundry and wearing shabby clothes." "Amazing," said the second, "I just got divorced for the very same reasons." ----- Read this sentence: FINISHED FILES ARE THE RE- SULT OF YEARS OF SCIENTIF- IC STUDY COMBINED WITH THE EXPERIENCE OF YEARS. Now count ALOUD the F's in that sentence. Count them ONLY ONCE: do not go back and count them again. See below... ANSWER: There are six F's in the sentence. One of average intelligence finds three of them. If you spotted four, you're above average. If you got five, you can turn your nose at most anybody. If you caught six, you are a genius. Many people forget the "OF"'s. The human brain tends to see them as V's and not F's. Pretty weird, huh? It fools almost everybody. ==== THE RESOURCE TIP ============================ Simply Safe Backup 2005 With Simply Safe Backup, you can back up to a (zip) file, a file server, a zip drive, a tape, FTP server, CD or DVD; Split Data Files, Locate-Compare-Verify tools, Perform Smart Backup, Perform Unattended Backups, 1-Click Windows NT Service-Start-Stop, Backup & Restore Wizards!
