The ensuing well-publicized traffic jam effectively stymied Key West's tourism industry. Mayor Dennis Wardlow, along with five local businessmen, hatched a scheme to save the Key West economy. The "Conch Republic" was created, declaring its independence and war on the United States, and then immediately surrendering and applying for foreign aid. The roadblock was discontinued, and the economy was saved. http://members.aol.com/brooks957/crhist.htm Cyber Yugoslavia This is Cyber Yugoslavia. Home of Cyber Yugoslavs. We lost our country in 1991 and became citizens of Atlantis. Since September 9, 1999 this is our home. We don't have a physical land, but we do have nationality, and we are giving CY citizenships and CY passports. Because this is Atlantis, we are allowing double and triple citizenships. If you feel Yugoslav, you are welcome to apply for CY citizenship, regardless of your current nationality and citizenship, and you will be accepted. Please read our Constitution for the details. If you are just curious, you are welcome to visit us as tourists http://www.juga.com/ The Principality of Freedonia Embassy The Principality of Freedonia is the premier new nation project in the world. Our goal is to establish a new nation with the most Freedom possible. Freedonia is the name of Groucho Marx's "alien nation" in the film Duck Soup. The aim of all political association is the preservation of the natural and imprescriptible rights of man. These rights are liberty, security in person and property, and resistance to oppression. We feel that present day governments are no longer effective protectors of the rights and liberties of the people. So we hereby establish this constitution to ensure the liberty of the people and let people live free in the Principality of Freedonia. http://www.freedonia.org/ Hutt River Province Principality The Principality of the Hutt River Province is a self-proclaimed "independent nation". It was founded on 21 April, 1970 by farmer Leonard George Casley (now describing himself as Prince Leonard) when he and his associates proclaimed their secession from Western Australia, a state of Australia. http://www.huttriver.net/ Ladonia Ladonia became independant from Sweden in 1996. It is bounded by the south of Sweden and Denmark. On the 2nd of June the country proclaimed its independance from Sweden - if it ever was occupied; the country was hardly ever discovered. No one is living in Ladonia, all of its citizens are nomades and pay visits to the two chief towns Nimis and Arx, erected during the period 1980-96. http://www.ladonia.net/ Freie Republik Laputa The oldest authenticated reference on Laputa dates back to April 21, 753 B.C., when the Lauputian progenitrix La Puta saved the people of Balnibarbi from the danger of dieing out because of having forgotten how to reproduce. The Kingdom of Balnibarbi and the flying island Laputa were discovered in April 1707 by Lemuel Gulliver Sr., a sailor from Nottinghamshire/England. Lemuel Gulliver published a report about his travels into several remote nations of the world, the Laputian part of which was commented by Gulliver's grand-grand-...-grandson Lemuel Gulliver, Webmaster at the BULL. http://laputa.de/ LFCity - Laissez Faire City Laissez Faire City (LFCity) was a sovereign international city domiciled in Cyberspace. Laissez Faire City has been dissolved. http://www.lfcity.com/ Lomar - Freie Republik von Lomar The Republic of Lomar Foundation (hereafter ROLF) is a transnational diplomatic institution focused on activities and issues related to refugee documentation, human rights, and local development. In the spirit of inventor and humanist Fridtjof Nansen, our primary mission is to give refugees and other qualified individuals access to an alternative citizenship - permanently or temporarily. http://www.republic-of-lomar.org/ League of Secessionist States The League of Secessionist States was founded on the 26th of November, 1980 by the Kingdom of Talossa, the Kingdom of Thord and the Imperial Jahn Empire, as an organization to unite micronations. Micronations, also known as ephemeral states, imaginary states, model nations, counter-countries and unrecognized states, are a growing phenomenon. They range from the inventions of single individuals to (virtually) functioning societies with populations in the thousands, often spread across 'national' boundaries. What they have in common is the voluntary nature of citizenship, which is unrecognized by the established (Macro-)nations. http://www.geocities.com/CapitolHill/5111 Dominion of Melchizedek A recognized ecclesiastical and constitutional sovereignty inspired by the principles of the Melchizedek. The original capital of Melchizedek was Salem (now called Jerusalem), an ancient city in the Middle East considered to be international territory. http://www.melchizedek.com/ NationStates NationStates is a free nation simulation game. Build a nation and run it according to your own warped political ideals. Create a Utopian paradise for society's less fortunate or a totalitarian corporate police state. Care for your people or deliberately oppress them. Inspired by the novel Jennifer Government by Max Barry http://www.nationstates.net New Utopia - Principality of New Utopia The Principality of New Utopia is a constitutional sovereignty based on the principles of free enterprise and capitalism, embracing a substantially tax free economy, with assurance of freedom and privacy in connection with any commercial enterprise. http://www.new-utopia.com/ Nova Roma Nova Roma is an organization dedicated to the study and restoration of ancient Roman culture. From its legendary founding in -753 to 330, when it ceased to be the center of Imperial authority, Rome set the standard and laid the foundation for our modern Western Civilization. Rome civilized the world, and we see the need for that divine mission to be kept alive. http://www.novaroma.org/ Oceania The Atlantis Project, which proposed the creation of a floating sea city named Oceania, began in February '93, receiving nationwide publicity from The Art Bell Show, Details Magazine, The Miami Herald, Boating Magazine, and worldwide publicity in Canada, New Zealand, Hong Kong, England, and Belgium. The project ended due to lack of interest in April of 1994. http://oceania.org/ The Country of Oceanus The ocean seas belong to us all. Oceanus Government is the world's only non-exclusive consensus management plan for the environment. We know better than to abuse the planet. Now each of us needs to take a stand to stop this abuse. By sharing information about Oceanus Government, you and your friends can make a difference. http://showcase.netins.net/web/birchbark/oceanus/oceanus.htm Pitcairn Island The home of the descendants of the "Mutiny on the Bounty". As you sail towards Pitcairn, you approach one of the remotest of the world's inhabited islands, lying halfway between New Zealand and the Americas. Four thousand eight hundred kilometres of open ocean separate you from them; a few archipelagos lie to the north; and the southern seas are empty to the ice caps of Antarctica. http://www.lareau.org/pitc.html http://www.government.pn Principality of Sealand Sealand is located in the southern part of the North Sea some six miles off the coast of Britain and from sixty-five to one hundred miles from the coasts of France, Belgium, Holland and Germany; Latitude 51.53 N, Longitude 01.28 E (see map). It was was founded as a sovereign Principality in 1967 in what had been international waters. Principal and Sovereign: Roy of Sealand. The Law of Sealand is based on British Common Law and British Law of Contract. Passports and stamps have been in circulation since 1969. http://www.sealandgov.com/ Talossa - Kingdom of Talossa The Kingdom of Talossa is an independent, sovereign nation in North America which seceded peacefully from the United States in 1979. Talossa has sometimes been classified as an imaginary country or "micronation," but according to a statement approved in a 1993 referendum, "The Kingdom of Talossa is a community of persons having fun by doing things which are reasonably similar to what other ('real') countries do, whether for reasons of tourist nostalgia, out of a lust for power, in pursuit of parody, or -- yes -- as nationbuilding." http://www.talossa.com/ http://my.execpc.com/~talossa/ The Kingdom of Zarahemla Ours is a kingdom in exile because we wish to live off Earth and are awaiting the advance of technology to assist us in reclaiming our future homeland: the asteroid Ceres . We have created this micronation as a means to collect like minded people in the hopes of being the seed from which an actual nation will grow. http://zarahemla.dhs.org/ ==== OTHER EZINES =============================== ASIAN TIMES ONLINE Asia most trusted source for news, business, commentary and analysis from throughout Asia and our world. Kamarudin Mohamad's latest betrothal was also his first. He remarried his first "ex-wife" Sunday after divorcing her in 1958. She is now 74. In between, he married 51 other women, including an Englishwoman and two Thais. "I am not a playboy. I just love seeing beautiful women," the New Straits Times quoted Kamarudin, who hails from northern Kelantan state, as telling the paper. He said all his previous marriages ended in divorce, except his last wife who died of cancer. "My shortest marriage lasted for two days several years ago and the longest was with my last wife, a Thai woman from Songkhla, with whom I was married for 20 years." Kamarudin is a Muslim and his religion allows him to have as many as four wives at a time. Traditionally, divorce can be accomplished simply by the husband announcing it to his wife. --- New Austrian coin weighs 31kg AUSTRIA has unveiled what it called the world's biggest gold coin in honour of the famed Vienna Philharmonic Orchestra, the APA news agency reported. The gleaming 24-carat gold disc, dubbed Big Phil, measures 37cm and weighs 31kg. Only 15 of the coins were created by the Austrian Mint. Though the coin has a face value of 100,000 euros (about $170,000) its retail price is worth more than 330,000 euros ($561,000). It bears a replica of the Philharmonic Orchestra's famed hall on one side and musical instruments on the other. The Austrian Mint said it expects the coin to enter the Guiness World Records book. --- Tax on Men for Violence on Women Proposed STOCKHOLM (Reuters) - A group of Swedish parliamentarians proposed levying a "man tax" to cover the social cost of violence against women. "It must be obvious to all of us that society has a huge problem with male violence against women and that has a cost," Left Party deputy Gudrun Schyman told Swedish radio on Monday. "We must have a discussion where men understand they as a group have a responsibility," said Schyman, one of the party members to sign the motion for debate on the new tax. Sweden already has the highest taxes in the European Union as a percentage of gross domestic product to pay for its famous but hard-pushed cradle-to-grave welfare program. It is also one of the world's most advanced nations in terms of gender equality, but Schyman said in a headline-hitting 2002 speech that discrimination in Sweden followed "the same pattern" as in Afghanistan under the Taliban. ----- TRAVELLER'S TALES ONLY CHILD: A school in New Zealand has only one pupil. This beats our recent tale about the two-student school in Malaysia. Nine-year-old Shanneill Mancer says she would be happier if she had someone to play with at the school, which has a tennis court, a swimming pool and large playing fields. Shanneill gets unrivalled attention, the Waikato Times said. "Mum says I will get a good start with the one-to-one," she told the press. ----- Oxymoron: bug-free software ----- "Why don't they make the whole plane out of that black box stuff." -- Steven Wright. ----- "The most hazardous part of our expedition to Africa was crossing Piccadilly Circus." -- Joseph Thomson. ----- Three old men were sitting around at the nursing home, discussing ageing. The 80 year-old said, "The best thing that could happen to me would just to be able to have a good pee. I stand there for twenty minutes, and it dribbles and hurts. I have to go over and over again." The 85 year-old said, "The best thing that could happen to me is if I could have one good bowel movement. I take every kind of laxative I can get my hands on and it's still a problem." Then the 90 year-old said, "That's not my problem. Every morning at 6:00 am sharp, I have a good long pee. At 6:30 am sharp I have a great bowel movement. The best thing that could happen to me would be if I could wake up before 7:00 am." ----- The last words of a chemist: 1. And now the tasting test. 2. May that become hot? 3. And now a little bit from this... 4. ... and please keep that test tube alone! 5. And now shake it a bit. 6. Why is there no label on this bottle? 7. In which glass was my mineral water? 8. The bunsen burner *is* out! 9. Why does that stuff burn with a green flame?!? 10. *H* stands for Nitrogen - and that does *not* burn... 11. Oh, now I have spilt something... 12. The fire alarm is just being tested. 18. Now you can take the protection window away... 19. And now keep it constant at 24 degrees celsius, 25... 26... 27... 20. Peter can you please help me. Peter!?! Peeeeeteeeeer?!?!?!? 21. I feel it how long 15 seconds are! 22. Something is wrong here... 23. Where do all those holes in my kettle come from? 24. Trust me - I know what I am doing. 25. And now a cigarette... ==== THE RESOURCE TIP ============================ XP-ANTISPY The xp-AntiSpy is a little utility that lets you disable some built-in update and authentication 'features' in WindowsXP. For example, there's a service running in the background which is called 'Automatic Updates'. I don't know what this service transfers from my machine to other machines on the internet, especially the MS ones. So I play it safe and disable such functions. If you like, you can even disable these functions manually, by going through the System and checking or unchecking some checkboxes. This will take you approximately half an hour. But why wast time when a little neat utility can do the same in 1 minute? This utility was successfully tested by lots of users, and was found to disable all the known 'Suspicious' Functions in WindowsXP. It's customiseable, but comes up with the Default settings, which are recommended. This utility is DONATIONWARE!
